Ellis Chapel Baptist Church
JOIN OUR FAMILY
HISTORY
ECBC was established in 1889 under the leadership of Rev. A. Ellis. In November 1966
the church was destroyed by fire. Immediately after the fire, rebuilding
plans began to surface for the rebuilding of the church. However, all members were not in favor
of rebuilding in the same location, they wanted to purchase land in the Holy Oak Park
community. Since a consensus could not be reached, the church suffered a split in 1967. A group left ECBC and built New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church, which is still in existence today. After the naming of New Ellis, ECBC became Old Ellis Chapel Baptist Church until 1989, ECBC changed
its name back to the original name, Ellis Chapel Baptist Church.
